How it All Started

A note from Cassi and Will.

This is Cassi and Will! We are the co-founders and voice teachers that make up The Voice Collective. We met at Boston Conservatory while we were both working on our MFAs in musical theater vocal pedagogy. We were in the first graduating class of that program, something we are both immensely proud of.

We got along well from the start, but really hit it off when we were assigned as partners doing a scene from Hedda Gabler in our second semester acting class. From that moment forward, we were inseparable. Taking long walks home from school, going on beach adventures with Will’s wife Rebecca and Cassi’s dog Rue, talking late into the night about our strong pedagogical opinions, and bouncing thesis ideas off of each other.

By the time we finished with grad school, it was clear that we had the same big ideas about how we wanted to make a difference in the voice community, and had the same values as teachers. We had had similar experiences as singers, being pushed into boxes by teachers and feeling really limited by it. We wanted to find a way to open up possibilities for students instead. The obvious next step was to do those things together. And thus, TVC was born!
