course breakdown
Class One: Welcome to the Jungle - Introductions
In a group setting, we will engage with each participant to understand you as an artist. You will perform 32 bars of either a pop/rock or musical theater song to showcase your strengths. Following this, we will inquire about your relationship with pop/rock singing and offer guidance on selecting repertoire for the remaining sessions.
Class Two: Breath Management and Onsets/Offsets
Pop/rock singing demands versatility and flexibility, including strategic breath management and the way you approach phrase beginnings and endings. Come prepared to explore these concepts and begin work on a new pop/rock song.
Class Three: Mixing: Myths and Facts of Registration
Mixing is a hot topic in all contemporary singing genres and we are here to debunk myths and teach you what you need to know when thinking about registers in pop/rock. We will explore these ideas and begin work on your second new pop/rock song.
Class Four: Stylistic Elements
Authenticity in pop/rock singing hinges on your grasp of stylistic nuances. We will delve into the stylistic elements of your songs as we continue refining your material.
Class Five: Final Showings
This is your opportunity to showcase your progress and newfound skills. Each singer will present both pieces they've worked on in class, accompanied live and recorded for your personal use.

This course welcomes singers of all levels who are passionate about pop and rock music and are eager to refine their vocal technique.
